Over the river from the South Bank is a pub called the Harp. You have to check out their ciders. Also, if you head east, check out a bar called The Old Whistling Shop near Liverpool Street. The Jugged Hare near Moorgate is good for food. If you’re there for a Saturday and up early enough, Billingsgate fish market by Canary Wharf. I have a couple of other suggestions but there is so much, you cannot fail to find to find good food and drink.
Edit: just read the comment about Indian food. You will get told to head to Brick Lane. And there are some alright spots there. But the best tip is to head 5 minutes up the road to the Nadoo Grill (I’ll need to double check the spelling) in Whitechapel. That’s the place where the locals go to for preference.
